Terrific Kids, Teens and Educators Celebrated
HOLLY SPRINGS, NC MAY 15 2010 - For the eighth straight year, the Kiwanis Club of Holly Springs hosted Kids’ Appreciation Day at Womble Park. This highly anticipated party celebrated the accomplishments Holly Springs’ students and brought out the town’s families and business community for a day unlike any other. There were prizes, awards, performances, pizza, “SnoBalls”, bounce houses, and a Proclamation from Mayor Dick Sears.
The proudest moments of the day came during the Kiwanis’ Terrific Kids, Teens, and Teachers Award ceremony. For each of the last eight years, the club has recognized Holly Springs’ students at the Elementary and Middle school level. This year, for the first time, they celebrated High School students as well as teachers. In total, twenty eight Terrific Awards were given out and all recipients along with their families were invited by Chick-fil-a to have dinner at their new Holly Springs location.

It was truly a joyful and uplifting day for all in attendance, especially for Kiwanis’ Terrific Kids, Teens, Teachers and coordinator, Chandler Cobb. “The TERRIFIC Program has given magical recognition to the souls, character and spirit of the winners and their families. The TERRIFIC program has celebrated great treasures within each winner and these treasures will enrich their lives in countless and priceless ways”, beamed Mrs. Cobb.
Our local businesses also shined as NY Pizza provided the children with free slices and F & M Entertainment their brought bounce houses. Harris Teeter and Food Lion donated the beverages and The Holly Springs School of Dance put on two wonderful performances. “We are always happy and honored to be a part of Kids’ Appreciation Day. Our studio is all about celebrating the youth of our community. Having a day devoted to our town’s children is very, very special”, shared Marilyn Chappell before her Holly Springs Dance Company performed.
Many other businesses chose to donate items for the most exciting part of the event, the Kiwanis’ Annual Free for Children’s Raffle. In all, forty-four prizes were handed out. To give some examples, All About Wellness donated two bicycles, the Modern Woodmen of America gave away a stereo system, and Shelly Lane provided Webkinz, Zany Bandz, and Iwako erasers. There were also gift certificates from Jellybeans, S’kids, Blockbuster, Devil’s Ridge Golf Club, Sonshine Gymnastics, Polar Ice House and Sharpest Edge Hair Salon. The Carolina Hurricanes gave away an autographed hockey stick and the Durham Bulls four tickets to an upcoming game.
United States Senator Richard Burr put it best, “This is a very special day for the children of Holly Springs, and I would like to commend the Kiwanis Club for hosting this event and awards program. This is a great way to make your community a better place for everyone.” See photos here.
